About The Position

Great opportunity to join and support the Leonardo DRS Land Electronics engineering team in Melbourne, FL as a Rapid Prototype Electrical Engineering Technician. This hands-on role places you at the center of development work—repairing and refining complex electronics, building prototypes and test fixtures, and providing practical feedback that directly shapes product design and performance. You’ll work in a development lab and EMC environments alongside engineers to help bring robust, field-ready electronics from concept to reality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with minimum 2 years in an electronics lab environment.
  • Proven ability in soldering and reworking components down to 0201 working directly on electronic PCBs.
  • Proven ability to investigate and debug basic electronic circuits and cable issues.
  • Proven ability to navigate and understand schematic and layout files.
  • Proven ability using electronic lab equipment such as hot air reflow, microscopes, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and data loggers.
  • Working knowledge of ESD-safe best practices in an electronics lab environment.

Nice To Haves

  • IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certifications.
  • AS in Engineering Technology.
  • Familiarity with common workshop tools such as 3D printers, drill-presses, bandsaws, and grinders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform soldering, rework, repair, and modification on high complexity PCBs in a development lab environment.
  • Fabricate cable assemblies from the small and delicate to the large and environmentally robust.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and makes modifications as needed.
  • Set up and perform a variety of testing on electronic assemblies in a development lab environment or EMC chamber as directed by the requesting engineer.
  • Fabricate a variety of testing mock-ups, boxes, and one-off electronic/mechanical assemblies for use in a development lab environment.
  • Assist in design, building and procurement of new or improved machines, tools, fixtures and material handling equipment and coordinating the implementation.
  • Provide and develop documentation of prototype builds, and feedback to engineers.
  • Support engineering, under minimal supervision, with moderately complex engineering duties and hands-on tasks.
