About The Position

The Level II Receiving Inspector (Mechanical Components/AS9100 Environment) will work a weekend shift (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Level II Receiving Inspector to join our quality assurance team. In this role, you will inspect incoming mechanical components, subassemblies, and materials to ensure they meet engineering specifications, company quality standards, and industry requirements. Familiarity with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards is a strong plus, as this role may involve inspecting electronic and soldered assemblies in addition to mechanical parts. Experience with SmartScope or CMM is also highly desirable for this position. As a Level II Inspector, you will work with minimal supervision to identify and address quality concerns, provide detailed documentation, and collaborate with internal and external teams to resolve issues. This role is ideal for experienced professionals who are committed to maintaining the highest quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in mechanical inspection, quality assurance, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with SmartScope or similar multi-sensor measurement systems is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Knowledge of material traceability and documentation requirements in aerospace (e.g., CoCs, FAIRs).
  • Ability to use a computer with Microsoft Office, Teams, Visual, Oracle, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspection processes.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and resolving quality issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25lbs, following safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods while performing inspections.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or training in mechanical inspection, quality assurance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to program and operate a Smartscope and/or CMM.
  • Familiarity with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced visual, dimensional, and functional inspections on incoming mechanical components, subassemblies, and materials to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Operate and program SmartScope or similar multi-sensor measurement systems for precise and automated inspections.
  • Use advanced precision measurement tools and equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), optical comparators, and other specialized instruments.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Verify supplier-provided certifications, such as material test reports and certificates of conformance, to ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • If qualified, inspect electronic and soldered assemblies according to J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards, ensuring compliance with workmanship and quality criteria.
  • Identify, document, and isolate non-conforming materials or components in accordance with company procedures.
  • Generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs.)
  • Communicate with Quality Engineers to resolve quality issues and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate inspection records, including measurements, observations, and non-conformance findings.
  • Input data into quality management systems (QMS) and ensure all records comply with company policies and applicable industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and contribute to internal and external audits as needed.
  • Work closely with the Quality team, Engineering, Procurement, and Manufacturing teams to address and resolve quality concerns.
  • Provide training, technical guidance, and mentorship to Level I inspectors and other team members.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a culture of quality.
  • Ensure that all inspections comply with company QMS policies, safety regulations, and industry standards, including J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 (if applicable).
  • Stay current with updates to industry standards, tools, and techniques to improve inspection accuracy and efficiency.
  • Work 12 hours per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. NOTE: There will be 36 hours worked each week but 40 hours a week will be paid.
