About The Position

The Level III Receiving Inspector (Mechanical Components/AS9100 Environment) will work a weekend shift (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Level III Receiving Inspector to join our quality assurance team. This role is critical for ensuring that incoming mechanical and electronic components, subassemblies, and materials meet strict AS9100 standards, engineering specifications, and company quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have advanced inspection experience, including the use of SmartScope and/or CMM and familiarity with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards. As a Level III Inspector, you will conduct and oversee advanced inspection activities, program and operate Smartscope and/or CMM, generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and perform verification activities as directed by Quality Engineering, you will mentor lower-level inspectors and serve as a subject matter expert for the team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical inspection, quality assurance, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with SmartScope and/or CMM is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, surface plates, Smartscopes and/or CMM, and optical comparators.
  • Knowledge of material traceability and documentation requirements in aerospace (e.g., CoCs, FAIRs).
  • Ability to use a computer with Microsoft Office, Teams, Visual, Oracle, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspection processes.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and resolving quality issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25lbs, following safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods while performing inspections.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certifications in quality inspection, GD&T, SmartScope programming, or related areas are highly desirable.
  • Additional training or certification in J-STD-001, IPC-A-610 are desirable.
  • Familiarity with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced visual, dimensional, and functional inspections on incoming mechanical and electronic components to ensure compliance with AS9100 standards, engineering drawings, and purchase orders.
  • Inspect soldered and electronic assemblies in accordance with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Operate and program SmartScope and/or CMM for automated and precision inspections.
  • Utilize measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, surface plates, Smartscopes, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and optical comparators.
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Verify supplier-provided certifications, including Certificates of Conformance (C of Cs), material test reports, and other documentation, to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Identify and document non-conforming materials or components by writing detailed Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) in accordance with our Quality Management System (QMS.)
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to provide verification activities in support of the NCR disposition.
  • Ensure non-conforming materials are properly segregated and labeled to prevent unintended use.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records, including inspection results, measurements, and observations, in compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Input electronic Receiving Inspection Cert. Packs into the company’s database and file the original hard copy for long term storage.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and contribute to internal and external audits as needed.
  • Act as a technical resource and mentor for Level I and Level II Inspectors, providing guidance on inspection techniques, tools, and standards.
  • Train lower-level inspectors in best practices for inspection, documentation, and compliance with AS9100 standards.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, including recommendations for enhancements to inspection processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Ensure all inspection activities comply with the company’s QMS and AS9100 standards.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, changes to standards, and new technologies to maintain technical expertise and improve inspection efficiency.
