About The Position

Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Recreation, the Recreation Facilities Manager oversees the daily operations, programming, and staffing of multiple District facilities including Lakeview Fitness, Sullivan Community Center, Turtle Creek Waterpark, and affiliated recreation programs. This position ensures facility operations align with the Park District’s mission and customer service standards while directly supervising full-time Recreation Supervisors, Customer Service Supervisors, and the Member Services & Sponsorship Representative. The Manager is responsible for team leadership, operational effectiveness, budgeting, and collaboration across departments to deliver safe, high-quality recreational experiences.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Facility Management, or a closely related field with a minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in recreational program management and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid Illinois Class "D" driver's license is required.
  • Must successfully complete a physical exam, drug screening, background check, and road test.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills are essential.
  • Employee must have the ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • CPRP certification preferred (as eligible per NRPA).

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to Recreation Supervisors and Customer Service Staff; conduct regular team meetings and annual evaluations.
  • Support staff development, certification, and cross-functional training efforts.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment aligned with District values.
  • Oversee operations of Lakeview Fitness, Sullivan Community Center, Turtle Creek Waterpark, and related program areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure facilities are safe, clean, and functional.
  • Serve as liaison between departments to coordinate program scheduling and space use.
  • Ensure facilities comply with ADA, OSHA, and other safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with Recreation Supervisors to plan and evaluate athletic, aquatic, fitness, and community programs.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and service delivery standards across all managed facilities.
  • Oversee membership services, sponsorship initiatives, and front desk operations.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor operating budgets for assigned facilities and programs.
  • Approve payroll and staffing schedules.
  • Maintain accurate financial, registration, attendance, and maintenance records.
  • Review and approve marketing and promotional content in coordination with the Marketing team.
  • Implement short and long-term plans to enhance facility usage, programming, and revenue.
  • Provide monthly and annual reports to the Superintendent of Recreation.
  • Represent the District in meetings, partnerships, and professional associations.
  • Collaborate across departments on initiatives such as capital improvements, technology upgrades, and community outreach.
