About The Position

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Administrative Services, the Recreation General Manager oversees and manages the planning, development, organization, and scheduling of District recreational programs, activities, and facilities. This leadership position plays a key role on the District’s Leadership Team and is responsible for the delivery of balanced, diverse, and inclusive recreation services that are responsive to the community’s needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in recreation programming, facility management, or a related public-sector environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience, including responsibility for staff leadership, budgeting, and operational decision-making.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must possess or obtain within 90 days of hire: CPR, Standard First Aid, and AED certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of the Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District’s goals, objectives, policies, and procedures related to recreation services.
  • Plan, manage, direct, and execute all core Recreation functions, programs, services, and facilities.
  • Conduct regular program evaluations and resident satisfaction surveys; adjust program offerings as needed to align with service delivery expectations and the Department’s cost recovery model.
  • Develop partnerships and collaborative initiatives with local businesses, municipalities, schools, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders to expand recreational opportunities and reach underserved populations.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of recreation professionals.
  • Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and performance and foster a positive and inclusive work culture that promotes teamwork, creativity, and excellence in service delivery.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the Recreation Department, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Approve forecasts of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, supplies, and capital improvements; approve expenditures and implement budgetary adjustments as appropriate.
  • Oversee the efficient operation and maintenance of recreational facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Coordinate facility scheduling, rentals, and usage to optimize resource allocation and revenue generation.
  • Develop and monitor long-term replacement and improvement programs and associated budgetary requests.
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs of facilities to ensure appropriate appearance, guest and employee safety and security, and identification of needed maintenance repairs.
  • Represent the Recreation Department to other District departments, elected officials, the general public, community groups, and outside agencies.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings and stay abreast of new trends and innovations in parks and recreation.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Oversee program registration system used at District facilities.
  • Support community engagement efforts in collaboration with other District departments.
  • Work periodically on special projects assigned by the Deputy Director of Administrative Services that align with District strategic priorities and leadership capacity.
  • Actively participate in state and national professional organizations, as well as affiliated organizations, to promote recreation and the Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, staff meetings, and conferences, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
