Recreation Therapy Manager -FT Opportunity West Oaks Hospital has provided psychiatric care to the Houston area and surrounding communities for over four decades. Our 176-bed acute care facility is fully accredited and included a 16-bed residential treatment center for adult chemical dependency. We offer a broad range of behavioral health programs for children, adolescents and adults. Treatment is offered at multiple levels of care including inpatient, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist you and answer your questions about treatment options and insurance coverage. Visit us online at: https://westoakshospital.com/ West Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented full-time Recreation Therapy Manager to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals. The Recreation Therapy Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, clinical oversight and operational management of the Recreation Therapy Department. This role ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic recreation services that support patient recovery, improve functional outcomes and enhance overall treatment effectiveness. The Recreation Therapy Manager collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team to integrate evidence based therapeutic recreation interventions into individualized treatment plans, ensuring services are patient centered, trauma informed and aligned with regulatory and accreditation standards. The position also oversees staff supervision, program development, budgeting, performance improvement initiatives and compliance with federal, state and accrediting body requirements.

Requirements

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation: Recreation Administration or Recreation with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Licensure and certification Required: CTRS certification through National Certified Therapeutic Recreation Council. CPR and hospital de-escalation certifications.
  • Experience Required: Five years (5) of experience in program development and implementation of therapeutic recreation activities, to include staff management, in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision and scheduling of all recreational therapists and interns.
  • Monitors and maintains recreational programming through auditing of charts, completion of PI monitors, case conferences, and ordering of supplies.
  • Provides direct care to patients including:
  • Implements a recreational assessment on each patient.
  • Provides an assortment of leisure activities.
  • Orients patient and staff to gym, equipment, pool, and other recreational areas.
  • Assist patients in developing an understanding of the wholistic benefits associated with leisure and recreation.
  • Assist patient to improve functioning in all human domains to consist of: physical, social, emotional, physical, spiritually, and emotionally.
  • Completes documentation accurately and timely.
  • Works with treatment team to develop and implement therapeutic recreation intervention programs.
  • Maintains recreational areas and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
