About The Position

Under general direction, is engaged in the organization of and logistical execution of all manufactured good sales that are made by Southeast region Sales group. Is also engaged in logistics of all trades and sales that are executed by Merchandising Group. Specific attention will be placed on all shipments including but not limited to truck shipments. Works closely with designated merchandising teams and other staff to ensure timely trades, sales, and effective product movement.

Requirements

  • Be able to succeed within and adhere to the culture of the Furst-McNess Company.
  • Education is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Economics or the equivalent in related work experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of logistics management experience within the agricultural commodity industry. Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet management is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics, transportation, and supply chain operations, with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective, professional oral and written communication skills; able to interact diplomatically with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with ERP systems is preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong time-management skills; able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and support special projects.
  • Customer-focused, team-oriented, flexible, and willing to adapt, take feedback, and contribute beyond defined responsibilities as needed.
  • Able to travel occasionally as business requires; must maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Logistics & Transportation Management o Coordinate and book freight to ensure on-time execution of purchase and sales agreements. o Oversee fleet maintenance, service and repair records; coordinate with the Fleet Manager to meet DOT and company compliance requirements.
  • Customer & Supplier Relations o Serve as the primary logistics contact for customers and suppliers regarding shipping schedules, product availability, and service updates (does not include wholesale). o Communicate customer service requests, concerns, or complaints per company policies.
  • Contract & Agreement Management o Work with merchandising teams to optimize product movement at the lowest cost to the company.
  • Documentation & Compliance o Ensure timely and accurate input of equipment purchase and sale transactions. o Work closely with accounting to resolve discrepancies and correct freight deviations from orders.
  • Issue Resolution & Investigation o Investigate and assist in resolving logistics issues such as shortages, weight discrepancies, waiting time charges, and demurrage fees.
  • Reporting & Administrative Duties o Submit required reports, expense documentation, and cycle reports per company guidelines. o Participate in industry trade shows and associations as directed. o Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Oversee and Collaborate on Rail Logistics o Partner with Merchandising, local Operational leadership and railroad organization to plan rail service, negotiate rates, manage relationships, and coordinate agreements. o Oversee shipments of rail cars and truck deliveries, including loading and receiving at company-controlled and third-party facilities. o Manage daily plant rail inventories and equipment, ensuring compliance with company standards. o Responsible for overseeing the management of inaccurate demurrage charges with railroads when necessary. o Confirm all shipping documentation (Bills of Lading, load orders, inspection records) are reported and recorded accurately.
  • Manage Logistics Personnel o Lead, coach and develop logistics and transportation team members, including drivers, Dispatchers, and Location Logistics Managers within the Southeast Region. o Foster a team environment focused on accountability and efficiency. o Support hiring, onboarding, and continuous development of logistics team members in the Southeast Region.
  • Southeast Region Vendor Relationship Management o Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation providers, suppliers, and third-party logistics partners. o Oversee and negotiate rates, contracts, and service agreements to optimize cost and performance. o Monitor vendor performance to ensure service-level expectations are met or exceeded. o Resolve service issues, disputes, and delivery challenges in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as requested or required.
