To provide individualized care to the patients, at a competent level utilizing the principals and practice of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve the desired outcome. Provides assistance to the physician as needed. The endoscopy nurse is accountable for the complete spectrum of patient care from admission to discharge. Has knowledge of the clinical interventions and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served. Prepares patients mentally and physically for exam · Obtains patient’s history and updates endoscopy assessment form. · Is knowledgeable of actions and reactions of all drugs administered. · Is knowledgeable of proper care and handling and maintenance of all endoscopy equipment and accessories. · Assists with preparation and performance of endoscopic procedures. · Collects specimens properly and accurately. · Monitors vital signs before, during and after procedures. Handles any complications that may arise accordingly. · Promotes positive image and concern to the patient and patient’s family. · Provides discharge instructions. · Maintains physical surroundings of the endoscopy department, conducive for optimal performance, safety and comfort of the patient. · Respects the privacy of the patients and maintains confidentiality in all information obtained in the performance of professional service. · Maintains cooperative nature and good rapport with physicians and co-workers. · Administers IV and medications or conscious sedation under Doctors direction and orders. · Utilizes equipment needed for procedure, monitors datascope, bovie. · Documents continuous patient assessment and reports changes in patient’s condition. · Participates in unit meetings and education seminars for maintaining high knowledge levels in the endoscopy fields, assuming responsibility for professional growth. · Teaches families on treatment and plan of care. · Be able to work flexible hours. · Be willing to work different areas of the outpatient department as assigned. · Completes annual skills validation, maintains competencies and education per Department/Hospital policy.
