About The Position

This position exists to support the research of SER’s Center for Carbon Capture and Conversion (CCCC) on novel, sustainable ways to convert coal to other materials.

Requirements

• Current UW student in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related natural science or engineering discipline.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to learn.
• Interest in laboratory work.
• Organized.

• Basic exposure to a laboratory setting.

• Works well independently and in team environments.

Responsibilities

• Grinding and sieving coal to prepare samples
• Operating flash pyrolysis reactor
• Cleaning reactor after runs
• Replacing and fixing components on various equipment
• Testing and analyzing flash pyrolysis products (all under the supervision of a research scientist). Testing may include Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Gas Chromatography (GC).
• Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
• Assist with laboratory testing as required.
