About The Position

The work will involve nanomaterials generally, including layered 2D materials and diamond films. Students who are on internships at Argonne will engage in hands-on projects in the center for nanoscale materials (CNM) for materials synthesis, fabrication and characterization in line with their background and the research needs of the SEEP-IT consortium through CNM user proposal mechanism. The CNM staff including Dr. Sumant will help in mentoring students and helping them with the research activities at the CNM.

Requirements

  • Experience in working in the cleanroom environment as well as hands-on experience in using few characterization and synthesis tools including scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy and metal thin film deposition systems.
  • The student should be familiar with statistical analysis, graph plotting and writing a research report based on experimental work they are involved in.
  • Good presentation skill in presenting their results and good communication skills.
  • It is important that student will follow all safety training required to work in the cleanroom.
  • The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States.
  • Applicants must be: Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
  • Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident at the time of application.
  • If accepting an offer, candidates may be required to complete pre-employment drug testing based on appointment length.
  • All students remain subject to applicable drug testing policies.
  • Must complete a satisfactory background check.
