About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is currently seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for a full-time Research Scientist IV position in the Division of Molecular Therapeutics. The RS IV will be involved in projects focused on studying the role of acetylcholine and dopamine in regulating behavior. The qualified candidate will work closely with division members, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral and senior research scientists, and faculty members. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in day-to-day tasks or demonstrated experience in using these tools in previous roles, such as creating reports, presentations, and spreadsheets.

Requirements

  • Candidate must hold a current mentored career development (K award) or its equivalent with at least one year of funding remaining, be entering a No-Cost Extension (NCE), or have a K application that has already been reviewed by NIH (i.e., has received a score or summary statement)
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of professional research experience in an appropriate field or master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, or Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.
  • strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in day-to-day tasks or demonstrated experience in using these tools in previous roles, such as creating reports, presentations, and spreadsheets.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or MD PhD in Biological Science related field
  • Background in Neuroscience
  • Extensive experience in behavioral analysis of mice
  • Experience in the collection and analysis of in vivo fiber-photometry and electrophysiological data collected during behavior.
  • Proficiency with associated data analysis software platforms (GraphPad Prism, R, MatLab, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform behavioral analyses with mice.
  • Use in vivo imaging to measure acetylcholine levels from the mouse brain during behavior.
  • Use in vivo electrophysiology to measure neuronal activity in the behaving mouse
  • Responsible for developing and performing experiments and analysis strategies alongside other members of the lab, preparing results for presentations, writing manuscripts for publishing, and contributing to broader aspects of collaborative projects in the lab.
  • Communicate with and mentor other lab members in the development and deployment of such assays, in addition to fostering any necessary collaborations.
  • Supervision of undergraduate research assistants
