About The Position

Research Specialist 1 (Intern) for the Texas HHS Office of the Inspector General, Inspections and Utilization Review division, Major Case Unit (MCU) performs entry-level to routine (journey-level) research work. Work involves examining, investigating, and reviewing records, reports, financial documents, policy, rules, and management practicesto ensure legal compliance with state statutes and internal regulations; and conducting research for program economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. Works under moderate supervision, with little latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Basic research methods and techniques.
  • Applicable state statutes, Texas Administrative Code, and internal policies, or the ability to learn them.
  • Principles of document review and records management.
  • Professional standards and internal procedures applicable to investigative or oversight work.
  • Conducting policy, legal, and data research.
  • Analyzing data and summarizing findings.
  • Preparing clear, concise written reports.
  • Organizing and reviewing records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Managing time and meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Follow instructions and work effectively under moderate supervision.
  • Pay close attention to detail when reviewing records and data.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding work status.
  • Prioritize tasks and complete work within established timeframes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with professional and organizational standards.
  • Minimum requirements for this job include a bacchelor's college degree or progress towards a bacchelor's college degree.

  • Experience in researching policy and law is helpful for this job

Responsibilities

  • Research Assistant for MCU Investigations and Financial Forensics/Technical
  • Completes policy and Texas Administrative Code research as assigned by MCU Manager and lead investigators.
  • Completes analysis on investigative data and prepares reports detailing results.
  • Assists with financial forensic analysis by reviewing all documentation used in the analysis to ensure that it is free of duplication and is in a correct order.
  • Works with guidance and supervision from MCU Manager.
  • All of these duties are conducted in compliance with professional standards and OIG policies and procedures.
  • Prepares policy, code and data analysis research reports in conformance with investigative standards and effective business writing and data analysis practices.
  • Communicates with MCU manager on status of assigned tasks.
  • Completes assigned tasks within established timeframes.
  • Performs other work as assigned.
