About The Position

Responsible for the assessment and planning prior to outpatient Interventional Radiology procedures, nursing support related to CT guided procedures, facilitation of bedside procedures within the department, and recovery and discharge of sedated patients.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Completion of a bachelor or associate degree in nursing.
  • LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Tennessee. ACLS/BLS Certification
  • EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of policies and procedures of the hospital and completion of skills checklist for designated area as acquired through three month probationary period.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the nursing profession.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial patient assessment, develops plan of care according to age specific needs, updating as necessary and conferring with other members of the health care team.
  • Documents initial assessment, delivery of patient care and other pertinent information in electronic medical record.
  • Performs total bedside care of patients; assists with skilled procedures such as preparation for paracentesis.
  • Administers or supervises administration of pre-op medication, intravenous fluids, and antibiotics.
  • Informs physician of patient's general condition; any pertinent physical and emotional findings; assists the physician with treatments, procedures, or examinations as needed.
  • Verifies physician's orders and initiates and performs or supervises the completion of care.
  • Communicates with patient and his/her family providing emotional support and pertinent teaching related to the immediate pre-procedure phase; notifies appropriate personnel, notifies patient's family of a delay.
  • Verifies and documents availability and safety of emergency equipment, emergency drug stock, IV supplies, syringes, needles on assigned shift; replaces and restocks as needed.
  • Intra-procedure: administers conscious sedation under the direction of the physician, monitors patient’s condition, records vital signs to include ETCO2 for sedated patients, intervenes when necessary and documents pertinent information during the procedure.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
