About The Position

PRN - This position would work at both Midwife Services and our Perinatal Center Midwife Services of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines provides comprehensive, personalized care for women from adolescence through menopause, including pregnancy, birth, and gynecologic services. The team of Certified Nurse Midwives offers prenatal care, childbirth support, postpartum care, annual exams, contraception, and menopause management. As a hospital‑based practice , births occur at Iowa Methodist Medical Center or Methodist West Hospital, with a midwife present during labor to ensure safe, individualized care. The clinic provides genetic testing, IV therapy for hyperemesis, nutrition counseling, childbirth classes, and car-seat checks. UnityPoint Health – Des Moines Perinatal Center provides specialized, compassionate care for women with high‑risk pregnancies , partnering closely with primary OB physicians and midwives to create individualized care plans. The center manages conditions such as multiple gestations, diabetes, hypertension, recurrent loss, maternal health disorders, and fetal complications. Patients are seen by a team of perinatologists and perinatal nurse practitioners , with appointments designed to deliver thorough evaluation, diagnosis, and coordinated care. Why UnityPoint Health? Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program.
  • Must take a basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring course within 6 months of hire with ongoing annual strip review.
  • License(s)/Certification(s): Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Experience: 1 year Maternity or OB office experience
  • Other: Level 3 Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently , and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Answers questions and provides teaching as appropriate to scope and licensure or as directed by provider to patients and family members regarding health maintenance and medical illnesses
  • Documents appropriate information in the patient’s electronic chart
  • Complete patient forms and requests medical records/correspondence to be scanned into the electronic health record.
  • Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider
  • Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing
  • Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies
  • Provide and document advice for home care of illness/condition conducting follow up phone calls regarding patient’s health and progress as directed by provider.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
  • Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider as appropriate to scope and licensure
  • Understand inpatient and outpatient specialty procedures
  • Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements.
