Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Registered Nurse – Split Role: General Medical Unit & Virtual Nursing (.9 FTE) (.45 FTE General Medical Unit | .45 FTE Virtual Nursing) 12‑hour Day/Night Rotation | Every 3rd Weekend & Holiday This dual‑practice RN position allows you to provide bedside care on our General Medical Unit while also supporting inpatient care through our developing Virtual Nursing program. The role blends hands‑on clinical practice with technology‑enabled care coordination to enhance efficiency, communication, and the overall patient experience. What You Will Work 0.9 FTE; 72 hours per two weeks 12‑hour Day/Night rotation Every 3rd weekend & holiday .45 FTE providing bedside care on the General Medical Unit .45 FTE functioning as a Virtual Nurse supporting the General Medical Unit Virtual nursing shifts worked from the Support Services Building (SSB) in Onalaska, WI Hybrid virtual model in development (mix of on-site & remote) What You Will Do General Medical Unit – Bedside (.45 FTE) Provide direct nursing care to a diverse patient population, including: General medical diagnoses Post‑surgical (GYN, urology, etc.) Rule‑out chest pain Same‑day procedures Post–heart catheterization patients Intermediate‑level care (sepsis, DKA, respiratory support up to BiPAP) You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, HUCs, respiratory therapy, PT, dietary, and social work partners. The General Medical Unit is known for strong teamwork, mentorship, and a culture that supports continuous growth. Virtual Nursing – Remote Support (.45 FTE) Provide virtual clinical support to the General Medical Unit by: Managing delegated tasks such as admissions, discharges, patient education, and nightly rounding Conducting dual medication sign‑offs Assisting with documentation and coordination to streamline bedside workflow Monitoring patients and supporting safe, efficient care delivery Enhancing team communication between the bedside RN, patient, and interdisciplinary team Serving as a knowledgeable resource to peers Helping expand and evolve virtual nursing capabilities within the organization This innovative model strengthens patient care and reduces bedside nurse workload, allowing you to make a meaningful impact beyond the bedside.
