The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will play a key role in supporting safe, compliant operations across the Western United States, with a primary emphasis on civil construction projects. This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations, as well as internal HSE policies and standards. The HSE Advisor will report directly to the Manager, Health, Safety, and Environment.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of applicable federal and state health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA standards relevant to construction.
  • Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, jobsite inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence safe behaviors, coach field personnel, and promote a strong, positive safety culture.
  • Experience supporting or facilitating safety committees, toolbox talks, and field-level leadership engagements.
  • Competence in conducting root‑cause investigations and developing corrective actions.
  • Ability to evaluate jobsite conditions, identify emerging risks, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Skilled at adapting to fast-paced construction environments and managing competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools.
  • Strong record-keeping, documentation, and compliance‑tracking abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or commensurate experience
  • 3+ years safety and health experience
  • Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to work collaboratively
  • Exhibits strong personal accountability and holds team members to established standards
  • Skilled in problem-solving and innovation
  • Must have an aptitude for learning

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Electrical Transmission and Distribution is highly preferred
  • Experience using incident management systems, safety data software, or digital field applications (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Conducting jobsite audits to verify safe work practices and compliance with established procedures
  • Perform incident investigations and reporting
  • Developing and delivering health and safety training tailored to construction activities, equipment operation, and site‑specific conditions for employees at all levels.
  • Participating in the development and continuous improvement of safe work practices and procedures
  • Supporting and promoting Black & McDonald’s Internal Responsibility System
  • Coordinating and facilitating Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable governmental, regulatory, and client requirements
  • Assisting with the management of workers’ compensation claims
  • Traveling up to 25% of the time to support regional operations
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
