About The Position

Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. The safety program area of campus recreation primarily focuses on providing training programs in CPR, First Aid, AED, and other course offerings within the American Red Cross. This team also supports the learning and development of safety skills and provides department training for the organization. POSITION DEFINITION Under minimal supervision from the Aquatics Manager for Campus Recreation, the Safety Training Supervisor provides programmatic and operational oversight and supervision of safety instruction while directly supporting the areas’ training objectives, development, implementation and overall health and safety of the instructional team. The Safety Supervisor performs routine and complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor certification (or equivalent)
  • 1. Current American Red Cross Emergency Oxygen / CPR/AED, BBP, and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer certification (or equivalent), AND
  • 2. Current American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated leadership training and development
  • Demonstrated ability to present in front of small and large groups
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to lead staff that can be demonstrated through previous supervisory experience
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain professional work conduct
  • Ability to make independent decisions and make recommendations
  • Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervision
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet and other computer applications
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the overall management of Safety Instructors, and program operations: development, implementation, and assessment of instructional programs, including but not limited to custom courses,, and certification classes,
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, performance evaluations, development, scheduling, and Time & Attendance for staff
  • Provide instructional feedback, support, and development for safety instructors to deliver effective courses ensuring standards are taught and student objectives are met for American Red Cross certification.
  • Assist and work alongside ASI Department managers in the creation, development and execution of department orientations, trainings and student development, as needed
  • Assist with managing safety courses, training, and initiatives from creation to implementation
  • Manage American Red Cross certification records and reports
  • Assist with selection, procurement, inventory, and disbursement of program related equipment and promotional supplies
  • Assist with leading assessment of safety courses and training
  • Collaborate with the ASI Departments on staff certification records and department & organizational training
  • Ensure safety supplies and training material inventory is adequately stocked
  • Assist with the safety certification budget tracking system and maintenance; prepares a variety of disbursement requests (DRs) and purchase orders (POs), as requested, and prepares budget reports
  • Arrange and manage operational needs for safety classes / certification classes
  • Reports basic concerns to appropriate personnel
  • Enforce safety standards and ASI policies
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service
  • Utilize appropriate department software and tools to complete work assignments and projects
  • Maintain current knowledge of other Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) programs and services
  • Attend all mandatory trainings, meetings and workshops as required
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies. Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services, as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
