PURPOSE: The Sanitation Manager is responsible for leading all facility and equipment clean-up operations in a manner which yields facilities and equipment ready to meet sanitary standards and production needs. This Manager will also coordinate clean-up operations in and around the facility to produce a food safe and workplace safe atmosphere.

  • Ability to understand, comprehend, support, and execute the implementation of various manufacturing techniques, including Lean Manufacturing, to optimize total supply chain cost.
  • Facilitate training and establish strong effective collaborative partnerships with leaders, team members and support functions
  • Minimum 2-year degree (associates) or 5 years work experience in sanitation
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a lead and/or supervisory position
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with plant sanitation, SQF (Safe Quality Food), pest control and Microbiological and chemical analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the sanitation team across all shifts to ensure consistent execution of cleaning protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor sanitation procedures in compliance with FDA, USDA, GMP, HACCP, SQF and company standards.
  • Ensure all manufacturing lines are properly cleaned and sanitized during scheduled downtime and changeovers.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, production areas, and sanitation practices to identify risks and ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Production teams to resolve sanitation-related issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of sanitation schedules, chemical usage, cleaning validations, and corrective actions.
  • Train and coach sanitation staff on proper cleaning techniques, chemical handling, and safety procedures.
  • Manage inventory of sanitation supplies and chemicals, ensuring proper storage and usage.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and demonstrating sanitation practices.
  • Responsible for managing 4 shifts of janitorial employees
  • Effectively manage and utilize labor to complete daily, weekly and Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Oversee facility housekeeping to assure food and occupational safety.
  • Participate in the control of plant microorganisms through appropriate Sanitation measures.
  • Maintain a level of plant and departmental safety to meet company goals.
  • Assure compliance with GMP’s and company policies.
  • Effectively coordinate all Outside Service Contractors such as landscaping; snow removal; Janitorial; Pest Control; Water Treatment; Waste management; recycling program and laundry Service.
  • Perform and oversee food safety tasks as required for foreign material control, sanitation, critical control point operation, GMP’s and storage practices.
  • Perform and oversee tasks as designated for implementation and maintenance of HACCP and the Food Safety programs.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly reports which may include Chemical analysis, Microbiological analysis, Pest Control logs and self- inspections.
  • Reports on problems regarding food safety to Quality Manager.
