About The Position

The Scholarly Initiatives Law Librarian provides specialized law research and reference services and consultation to support law students, faculty, staff, and library patrons in traditional and virtual environments. The position is responsible for evolving law library services , innovatively to be responsive to the legal research and c r oss-disciplinary needs in support of the scholarship . This is a professional librarian position without faculty status and non-tenure track.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Master's degree from an ALA accredited library school (or foreign equivalent)
  • J.D. individuals that have been accepted into a ML S Program encouraged to apply.
  • 2-3 year s of law library experience preferred.
  • Candidates with ex perience or strong aptitude conducting in-depth legal research, including general litigation experience (case law, expert witness research, etc.); experience and/or know extensive knowledge of legal bibliography and legal research techniques in multiple formats; or, fluency with new and emerging technologies as they relate to information literacy, legal practice, are encouraged to apply.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with library information technology, systems, products and delivery technologies that support access to library materials;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams (Zoom or Other Virtual Environments).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PowerPoint, LibGuides , TRG's Quest, social media platforms and web-based communication, infor mation and collaboration tools .
  • Must have excellent verbal an d written communication skills; s trong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times ; ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working r elationships with Library staff with a strong service orientation.
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours a week, depending on the event schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provides both quick reference and in-depth research services using a variety of legal and non-legal resources, determin es the appropriate resources , conducts in-depth inquiries to clarify the subject, scope , and purpose of request s.
  • Designs, implements, integrates, and assesses library/information research and reference related aids, online tools, modules, OERs, tutorials, and other digital experiences that develop k nowledge of and expertise in library resources that enhance research and reference skills.
  • Provides assistance to faculty with online learning platforms , engagement support , and programs including course-integrated instruction .
  • Participates in Law Library collection development efforts, including selection, assessment, and management of resources and makes recommendations to leadership; s erves as liaison to vendors.
  • Identifies new resources and maintains awareness services and systems related to law librarianshi p, legal education , and pedagogy; e xplores new and emerging legal research methods and technologies, including those supporting data and analytics research .
  • Coordinates and maintains content for the Library's website and social media that provide a quality user experience; Ensures interacti ve user engagement with with web tools and aids ; evaluates and improves the discoverability and usability of patron-facing systems ; w ork s closely with IT personnel on pertinent issues.
  • Develops and implements outreach activities to engage the law school community; presents to legal programs, tours, orientations, guest lectures, clinics and workshops .
  • Makes recommendations to leadership on policies and operational changes and advancements related to various systems, including but not limited to systems administration decisions and ongoing maintenance.
  • Adapts technology in support of library reference and services; u tilizes electronic and print resources to support all aspects of litigation, case law, legislative , statutory , and regulatory research.
  • Represent s the School of Law and the greater university and the profession; e ngages and contributes to the profession and grows professionally through substantive involvement in committee work, research, publishing and/or participation in professional organizations at national, regional, section, and local levels.
  • Creates and provides training to faculty, staff, and other groups on content of databases, library resource s , and other research and bibliographical tools (collateral, research guides, checklists, etc.) .
  • Assist s faculty with online dissemination of scholarly publications .
  • Trains and supervises research assistants, e.g., Dean's Research Fellows .
  • Participates in university, library, and community committees, organizations , and meetings, working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
