About The Position

The Scholastic Performance Specialist I provides academic coaching and guidance to students, with an emphasis on early interventions and other identified at-risk student populations. The position advances student retention through individualized support, targeted programming, and collaboration with campus partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of higher education.
  • Experience working with college students.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience working with peer mentors/coaches.
  • Preferred knowledge of EAB (Navigate) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a caseload of students including records.
  • Collaborates with students to understand and develop realistic and attainable education/academic goals
  • Provides scholastic direction and advise to students both individually and in groups.
  • May refer students as needed.
  • Fosters retention of identified groups of students through coaching, mentoring, monitoring of student grades, and other support activities.
  • Communicate with students about academic concerns educating them about academic processes.
  • Coordinates outreach and support programming related to academic coaching, early warning programs, and at risk student populations.
  • Consistently engages the student population utilizing various outreach methods (e.g., in-person and online) to cultivate a professional relationship to keep students informed of critical and relevant personal, academic and professional deadlines, updates, and events.
  • Oversees the planning and/or delivery of various department related academic coaching, student success, retention events and academic support campaigns (e.g., New Student Conference, HU - 1st year success course, Pathways learning community, etc.)
  • Assists the development of academic coaching projects and their implementation to achieve specific objectives and outcomes.
  • Assists in interpreting data and preparing reports as requested.
  • Assist in coordinating the Navigate system for campus support such as messaging, early alerts, progress reports, case management, etc.
  • Assists in responding to inquiries from students and refers to appropriate university and college resources/polices.
  • Interacts with campus offices regarding scholastic progress of students related to early warning systems and/or general academic progress.
  • May supervise student employees to assist with programming.
  • Administrative duties as supervisor for student employees including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission of the department.
