About The Position

Glenstone Guides are members of the Public Engagement division committed to expanding public access to Glenstone while delivering a one-of-a kind museum experience and supporting our community through collaborative partnerships. The role is responsible for warmly welcoming visitors and delivering authentic, consistent information about Glenstone’s mission, core values, collection, campus, and programs. A Seasonal Guide directly engages with our visitors at the Arrival Hall, Entry Pavilion, and other operational locations around the site. They should be available 4 days per week during Glenstone’s current operating days of Thursday-Sunday from May 4th, 2026 to September 13th, 2026. They must be available to work until 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays for Glenstone’s Summer Evenings. Initial training will take place on four pre-designated days per week for a minimum of 2-weeks. The first week of training is Monday May 4th to Friday May 8th.

Requirements

  • Ability to engage directly, enthusiastically, and meaningfully with all visitors.
  • Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and communications skills.
  • Desire to learn and implement best practices, including those unique to Glenstone.
  • Adaptability and adherence to Glenstone’s core values.
  • Emotional maturity and cultural sensitivity necessary to engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with and continued curiosity about contemporary art.
  • Willingness to collaborate with peers, associates, and work successfully as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on operational need including weekends, special events, holidays, and evenings.
  • Work or volunteer experience in a creative field or environment.
  • Skills necessary to utilize technology in order to perform specific responsibilities.
  • Ability to stay informed via email, conduct research using online systems and databases, and access daily and weekly schedules.
  • Adherence to Glenstone’s required uniform guidelines.
  • Reliable transportation to and from Potomac, MD.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and up to date on all boosters.
  • Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a museum, art gallery, or cultural institution.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Tour guide experience.
  • Hospitality or customer service-related experience.
  • Multilingual.
  • ASL interpretation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Warmly welcome visitors, redeeming tickets for visitors with reservations and assisting those that arrive without reservations.
  • Flexibility to support special events and programming related to Glenstone’s mission and exhibitions.
  • Familiarize visitors with the site including explaining rules and policies.
  • Respectfully engage visitors, delivering authentic and consistent information about Glenstone.
  • Assist visitors with mobility issues by providing wheelchairs service.
  • Monitor the safety of the collection including coordinating with Security, Conservation and Visitor Experience teams as appropriate.
  • Quickly achieve proficiency in Glenstone’s mission, history, and campus through on-the-job training.
  • Seasonal term is from Monday, May 4th, 2026 to Sunday, September 13th, 2026.
  • Ability to work until 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays for Glenstone’s Summer Evenings.
