Perform setup, calibration, and maintenance including lathes. Read and interpret specification manuals, blueprints, templates and layouts to determine machining operation to be performed. Compute dimensions and tolerances. Measure and lay out work pieces. Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges and micrometers. Troubleshoot, debug and modify to achieve expected performance. Cross train in other complementary skills, seek endorsements, and move between production assignments that utilize multiple skills needed to support production requirements. Maintain a high degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy and precision. Lift 50 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average workday. Stand for prolonged periods. Operate conventional, manual lathes (vertical or horizontal), mills and balance machines. Select proper tools and speeds for the machining process Machine and fabricate parts using engine lathes, mills, and drill presses; occasionally may operate grinder. Perform machining operations as it relates to production of manufactured parts. Perform manual machining duties in a shop setting. Communicate job progress to supervisors and customers as needed in a positive, supportive, and timely manner.
