About The Position

The Accounting Specialist advances the mission of Central Ohio Youth for Christ and its affiliates by maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting, and assisting with daily Finance Department operations and month-end close processes. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies while collaborating across departments to support ministry effectiveness and stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2–5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, databases, and Google Workspace
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
  • Intermediate experience preferred in: QuickBooks Desktop Emburse Professional (Certify)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Reconcile credit card statements, general ledger accounts, intercompany accounts, and sub-ledgers
  • Support accounts receivable functions
  • Participate in internal audits and provide support for external audits
  • Analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend process improvements
  • Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Support organization-wide projects with accounting-related tasks as needed
  • Collaborate with the Development Team and Gracehaven on grant reporting
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and support compliance requirements
  • Administer the organization’s Expense Reporting module and serve as the primary point of contact for questions and troubleshooting
  • Prepare and provide financial reports for departments as requested
  • Participate in chapter-wide fundraising efforts by inviting a minimum of two guests to either the See the Story Tour and/or the Be the Story annual luncheon
