About The Position

This posting is for a Senior Assistant Resident Engineer position in the Salisbury Construction Resident Engineer’s Office. This is an Engineer II position that will perform engineering and administrative functions to assist the Resident Engineer in the oversight and contract administration of major construction projects in Division 9. This position will perform project oversight to ensure timely delivery and guarantee quality of work for highway construction projects, while also providing supervision of employees (including NCDOT technicians and CEI personnel) engaged in the inspection of the work. Contract administration includes, but is not limited to, communicating daily with contractors, construction office staff, and engineers, developing Supplemental Agreements to settle project issues as needed, creating and monitoring project records such as correspondence, pay estimates, daily reports, and project material certification. This position will assist the Resident Engineer in administrative matters within the office. This position will provide training, direction, and coordination of the work of engineering technicians and lower-level engineers assigned to projects. This position will attend meetings with contractors, engineers, other NCDOT agencies, local government officials, technicians, and stakeholders. The selected applicant will be expected to supervise, direct, manage and train lower-level employees and/or contract engineering personnel to achieve established project delivery metrics. Must have experience in Microsoft office, Outlook, HiCams, and use of GIS software. Ability to work safely in both office and outside environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Employee may be required to work at night, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required to resolve project issues. Must be able to legally drive a state vehicle. Requirements

  • Must have experience in Microsoft office, Outlook, HiCams, and use of GIS software.
  • Ability to work safely in both office and outside environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
