Work with the General Counsel and the broader legal team to provide general transactional procurement and supply chain legal advice to the company, at an expert level on a global basis, while ensuring company policy and various departmental procedures are followed. The guidance will support various aspects of the company's operations and functional departments with a general focus on aviation equipment manufacturing and sale, telecommunications (including satellite and internet service provider related issues) and digital services and technology. Represent the Legal department on areas of expertise and interface with all levels of Panasonic personnel and external contacts to coordinate departmental efforts. May directly manage or mentor/develop one or two legal staff members. Apply advanced level of skill and expertise in providing day-to-day legal advice, consultation and support to business units and operational/functional teams on procurement and supply chain transactions: Determine legal strategies and propose innovative business solutions that appropriately balance corporate objectives, risks and benefits Provide legal support to various departments on complex business transactions Manage critical cross-functional projects related to implementation of advice Draft, review, and negotiate agreements to safeguard the company's interests Keep informed of significant legal trends and decisions, legislation and rulings, and make proactive recommendations on related actions Research and draft memoranda and executive summaries on legal topics Design and edit legal templates, playbooks, forms, and documents Develop, revise and recommend changes to corporate policies and practices Create guides and provide training to the legal team and other internal departments and stakeholders Drive resolution of informal and formal legal disputes related to procurement and supply chain: Develop matter/case strategies Provide updates and recommendations to General Counsel and Executive Leadership or other stakeholders Identify, engage, and manage outside counsel, consultants, and experts, and develop and manage related budgets Draft or review pleadings and discovery responses, prepare witnesses, negotiate settlements Draft and coordinate responses to requests for records or information, demand letters, and audits and investigations Direct and develop 1-2 Legal Department personnel, including overseeing their work, conducting performance appraisals, and planning their training and development. Additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned, in support of the corporate and legal functions of the organization.

Requirements

  • Excellent contract review and negotiation skills, preferably in the areas of (i) direct and indirect procurement, (ii) complex transactions and (iii) and technology licensing

Nice To Haves

  • A strong interest in aviation desirable
  • Experience supporting aviation, electronics manufacturing, telecommunications (especially satellite based), media (TV, film, music), and services provider markets on an international basis preferred
  • Experience with IP, software licensing, SasS, cloud transactions, advertising law, bankruptcy and litigation management, government contracts, and compliance including privacy, antitrust, and anti-bribery on an international basis preferred
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred
  • Experience in a U.S.- or Japanese-based multinational company preferred
  • Avionics, electronics, software, satellite communications, and/or services provider experience preferred
