The Senior Cost Accountant ensures accurate inventory valuation reporting and adherence to effective internal controls and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates annual review/development and accuracy of all ERP inventory cost components, i.e., material, labor, overhead. Acts as ERP System cost lead and partner for manufacturing in support of continuity of data and reporting.
  • Works with Operations to ensure accurate and complete inventory records; supervises the annual cycle count process supporting the annual audit.
  • Reviews and reports on the ongoing cycle count results to ensure results meet an appropriate standard and that volume targets are achieved.
  • Prepares journal entries and reports on inventory related balance sheet reserves and allowances, i.e., excess & obsolete, inter-company profit in stock, inventory in transit, and capitalization of inventory variances.
  • Monitors inventory write offs and adjustment and advises on inventory valuation issues.
  • Reviews current internal controls and procedures and provides recommendations for enhancements.
  • Provides key oversight of inventory management including inventory turns analysis.
  • Analyzes product costs and operating expenses with objective of achieving significant cost savings.
  • Supports the preparation of timely and accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Validates cost of goods sold and labor & fixed overheads as part of the month-end close process.
  • Retains an up-to-date record of balance sheet reconciliations and ensures that journal entries have proper support and approval. Provides monthly reconciliation of subledger inventory records to General Ledger.
  • Provides reporting and analysis for all manufacturing activity including productivity, capital & department spending, absorption, sales, inventory and operations planning.
  • Performs special cost studies/analysis and other projects as required by management
  • Works closely with the Tax Manager to ensure compliance and tax optimization, for example, in relation to property and sales & use taxes.
  • Develops and maintains a Cost Accounting Manual incorporating appropriate policies & procedures.
  • Works with the FP&A function in preparing the annual budget for inventory and cost related issues.
  • Point of contact for the annual audit of the financial statements as it relates to inventory valuation. Goal is zero audit adjustments.
  • Other ad hoc tasks as assigned.
