Step into Your New Role Senior Data Analyst - Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Data Analytics & Operational Performance Position Summary This role supports operational performance, financial tracking, project analytics, and executive reporting through data analysis, dashboard development, and cross-functional coordination working directly with the COO. The position combines advanced analytics, operational understanding, and strategic problem solving, enabling executive leadership to make informed, timely decisions. The individual will understand the firm’s operating model, performance drivers, and project financials converting data into actionable insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Analytics, Finance, Data Science, or related field required.
  • 8-9 years of experience in analytics, operations, corporate development, finance, or project controls—preferably within an engineering, construction, or professional services firm.
  • Ability to syntheses data, interpret data, and develop action plans to improve P&L performance through the use of initiatives, deep dives, and policies and procedure development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (financial modeling, pivot tables, Power Query).
  • Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Experience in working with ERPs such as Deltek.
  • Strong understanding of P&L and project-based financial metrics (multiplier, utilization, backlog, overhead costs, operating profit).
  • Ability to quickly analyze large datasets and synthesize findings for executive audiences.

  • Extremely organized, able to develop project schedules, and work across operations and functional groups including accounting, HR, IT, operations, and business development.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (MBA or related) preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL or data querying tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and KPI tracking tools for revenue, utilization, backlog, resource forecasting, project performance, and profit margins.
  • Analyze operational data across engineering, science, and construction disciplines and offices to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational reports for executive leadership and board presentations.
  • Conduct variance analysis on budgets, forecasts, and project financials.
  • Support data-driven decision-making through scenario modeling and performance forecasting.
  • Monitor project performance metrics including net revenue, gross margin, labor multipliers, project write on/offs, and project profitability.
  • Partner with Finance, IT, and Area Managers, and Project Managers to improve cost tracking and reporting accuracy.
  • Assist in workload planning and capacity modeling across teams and offices.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements based on data insights.
  • Support COO initiatives and special projects including operational integration, system implementations, and performance improvement programs.
  • Assist in developing operational scorecards aligned with firm strategic goals.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking on industry metrics and best practices.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects and ensure follow-through on executive priorities.
  • Develop policies and procedures in partnership with corporate functional teams and operations to ensure smooth rollout and consistent use.
