About The Position

The Senior Department Chair will oversee the day to day management of faculty and Department Chairs at a given campus and will report to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs within a designated region. This oversight includes adjudicating faculty grievances/issues and student academic complaints at the campus level; assisting with the development of a standardized course schedule for the institution, and for monitoring course enrollments; and ensuring that all Academic Affairs policies are consistently implemented across the campus. This position will teach at least 50% of a normal faculty contract load for each of the four academic terms, as appropriate for the size and scope of the campus being overseen, with the requirement to teach at least one course as an adjunct in the summer. Special projects may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Heathcare Management or Public Healthcare
  • 5 years of full-time higher education teaching
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commonly accepted policies and procedures in academia.
  • Demonstrated effective oral & written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. in Heathcare Management or Public Healthcare
  • 5+ years of full-time higher education teaching AND higher education administration experience in an Academic Affairs setting (e.g., Department Chair, Division Chair, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with Campus Department Chairs and the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs to oversee faculty hiring and management, and the day-to-day academic operations of the respective GMC campus.
  • Ensures campus compliance with all academic and faculty-related policies as outlined in institutional documents, such as the Academic Catalog, Faculty Handbook, and GMC Policy Document;
  • Serves as a campus liaison between the campus academic departments and Academic Affairs Administration.
  • Provides campus input to the AVP of Academic Affairs regarding course scheduling, student needs, faculty utilization, and academic departmental budgets.
  • Serve as the campus point of contact for Faculty Grievances/Issues and Student academic-related complaints; Elevate these to the AVP of Academic Affairs as appropriate.
  • Teach at least two classes in each of the four academic terms (and at least one course as an adjunct in the summer), as appropriate for the size and scope of the campus being overseen. This position can only have two overloads per year without permission of the AVP of Academic Affairs.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
