About The Position

Hanwha Defense USA (HDUSA) develops and supplies advanced ground and sea combat systems to strengthen the capabilities of U.S. and allied forces. As HDUSA grows its manufacturing, engineering, and program execution footprint across multiple defense portfolios, the company is building a foundational AI capability to accelerate operations, replace legacy tooling, and compete on large DoD programs. HDUSA is seeking a Senior Enterprise AI Systems Engineer to serve as the company's first dedicated AI practitioner and the technical foundation of its enterprise AI program. This position reports directly to the CIO and is responsible for the design, deployment, and ongoing operation of frontier AI and agentic systems across the business. The role spans the full delivery lifecycle, from evaluating and selecting models, to building agentic applications, to deploying production systems within FOCI-mitigated, CMMC Level 2-compliant, and ITAR-controlled infrastructure. The Senior Enterprise AI Systems Engineer will work across Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Contracts, Program Management, and HR to identify high-value automation targets, build AI-powered replacements for internal SaaS and manual workflows, and establish HDUSA's internal standards for responsible, secure AI deployment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience (Python primary)
  • Demonstrated production deployment of LLM-based or agentic AI systems
  • Familiarity with major frontier model families and deployment tradeoffs
  • Hands-on experience with two or more agentic orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK, Microsoft Agent Framework, CrewAI, Google ADK, OpenClaw, etc.)
  • Experience deploying AI in constrained environments: on-prem, self-hosted, air-gapped, GCC High-equivalent
  • Working knowledge of RAG architecture, vector databases, embedding pipelines, retrieval tuning
  • Ability to read, evaluate, and apply ML/AI research papers
  • Strong written communication skills
  • US Citizen able to obtain a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in CMMC, ITAR, or FOCI-regulated environments
  • Fine-tuning experience (LoRA, QLoRA, full supervised FT)
  • Background in defense, aerospace, or regulated manufacturing
  • Experience with structured evaluations for AI systems
  • Familiarity with open-weight toolchains: vLLM, Ollama, llama.cpp, TGI, SGLang
  • Exposure to OT/IT convergence, MES, or ERP integration
