About The Position

Kyocera SLD Laser (“KSLD”) is looking for an experienced engineering manager to join our MOCVD engineering and operations team to support the NPI and manufacture of cutting edge GaN based laser diode products. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic business environment and will lead a team through critical process development and operations initiatives leading to a successful production volume ramp of KSLD’s wafer manufacturing operation. The position is based in Fremont, CA. The qualified applicant will join a highly motivated, collaborative technical team and will promote positive and proactive teamwork during an exciting growth phase of the company.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering, materials science, applied physics, or other relevant fields
  • 10+ years of industry experience in field III-V semiconductor devices, GaN experience preferred
  • 5 years of engineering management experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of epi wafer manufacturing; ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Fluency in statistical data analysis, DOE and SPC elements desired
  • Strong background and track record for teamwork and team building
  • Strong project management, communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated and driven personality
  • Previous experience or ability to operate in a dynamic production environment

Responsibilities

  • Maturation of the EPI process for NPI including WiW, WtW uniformity, process time optimization/improvement and yield at launch
  • Establishment of appropriate in-line process controls and metrics, including SPC
  • Actively drive with the team troubleshooting and resolution of any process related excursions and implement effective containment and permanent corrective actions
  • Strong collaboration with equipment engineering and equipment maintenance
  • Timely execution of epi process development, process transfer, and production qualification
  • Drive infrastructure and engineering & operations development in support of wafer manufacturing volume ramp-up
  • Develop and/or sustain production wafer output and yield targets in line with KSLD business plan
  • Responsible for epi wafer production operational reporting to management
  • Drive continual improvement and implementation of manufacturing best practices in support of KSLD’s quality system
