About The Position

The Senior Grants Officer is an essential member of a dynamic Institutional Giving team that manages all foundation and government support for both agencies. The ideal candidate will have a clear and demonstrated passion for communicating the work of the agencies through their writing, participating in the program development process, and promoting social justice.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelors degree from accredited institution and at least two years of grant writing experience required
  • Superior writing and communication skills, with emphasis on proposal writing
  • Superior project management skills; ability to coordinate activities of others diplomatically, including program directors and senior management; impose and manage timelines; and provide excellent overall coordination of multiple efforts to meet deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects and effectively set priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a robust portfolio of funders and demonstrated success securing funding of all types, including upgraded funding and new funders
  • Excellent critical thinking skills as related to creating coherent logic models for funding proposals, analyzing and synthesizing program design from program colleagues, and integrating the nuances of funders particular interests in advancing a body of work into our approach
  • Excellent computer skills including data base, word processing
  • Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
  • Knowledge of foundation and funding worlds (in related, non-profit fields a plus)
  • Excellent donor relations skills
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
  • Ability to work with and relate to board members, foundation/government contacts, and program directors
  • Must be available for occasional evening events

Responsibilities

  • Write letters of inquiry, proposals, renewal requests, and all reports to a select portfolio of private funders, and in response to select government RFPs, including preparing and sending complete packages with all attachments and standard forms
  • Work with program colleagues on developing the strategy for advancing the work for which resources are sought
  • Serve as primary point of contact with select funders in his/her portfolio, including attending funder site visits, scheduling preparatory meetings, organizing logistics, preparing talking points and materials, and providing follow up
  • Maintain grants calendar for his/her portfolio and coordinate the on time completion of multiple proposal and report deadlines with all stakeholders
  • Prospect for new funding opportunities in assigned program areas; seek and gain new funding
  • Seek and leverage up-to-date knowledge of assigned programs areas; broker effective relationships with program directors and finance colleagues
  • Facilitate and complete government contract packages as needed, coordinating with senior management
  • Work with the Director and rest of the institutional team to revise and improve internal processes for seeking, securing and managing institutional funder relationships
  • Contribute to specific gap-closing and program expansion efforts by helping to brainstorm approaches, identify sources of funding, and develop new materials
  • Have a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Assist with special events, department-wide campaigns, and special projects, as assigned by supervisor
