About The Position

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Project Engineering, to help us direct capital and expense project activities. As a Trex Sr. Manager, Project Engineering, you will be looked to as an innovator in the manufacturing process and expected to maximize facility productivity and efficiency, provide design assistance to enhance capital and expense projects, and provide direction for a team of project engineers. This role is a key member of our Engineering team. This is a rare opportunity to join Trex at the earliest stage of launching our new manufacturing facility in Little Rock, AR. As part of this greenfield startup, you will play a key role in building the team, processes, and culture from the ground up. This role requires a high level of ownership, collaboration, and adaptability as you help establish the foundation for a high-performing manufacturing operation. Requirements

  • We are looking for leaders with a bachelor’s degree in engineering (a Master’s degree is preferred), along with 10+ years of progressive engineering/project leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading capital projects in an industrial manufacturing environment, plus 8+ years of people management experience, is also required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Capital Project Execution
  • Lead all site capital projects (greenfield and major retrofits)
  • Develop defensible scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk plans
  • Drive strong vendor specifications and acceptance testing standards
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
  • Plant Startup & Commissioning
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of extrusion lines, compounding systems, material handling, dust collection, and plant utilities
  • Validate performance against throughput, scrap, and OEE targets
  • Transition projects cleanly into stable operations
  • Engineering Governance
  • Establish structured capital approval and cost control processes
  • Implement performance-based equipment specifications and SAT/FAT discipline
  • Drive post-project reviews and continuous improvement
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and Finance
  • Ensure equipment design aligns with feed variability, recycled content, and real-world operating conditions
  • Proactively manage safety risks, especially dust and combustible material hazards
  • Team Development
  • Build and lead a high-performing project engineering team
  • Develop internal engineering standards and documentation
  • Coach engineers on structured problem solving and execution discipline
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Manage and provide ongoing performance, coaching, and professional development opportunities for a team of 4 direct reports.
