In this role, you will manage the Clients & SDKs team, which owns the developer-facing interfaces that allow engineers to interact with Docker programmatically. This includes SDKs, client libraries, and integrations used by external developers building on top of Docker’s platform. The team’s work focuses on API design, usability, stability, and long-term maintainability. You will lead an established team of senior engineers, ensure reliable delivery, and partner closely with Product to evolve these interfaces as Docker’s ecosystem grows. The successful candidate has a deep technical background that they leverage to drive the team to operational excellence and good technical decisions. They are skilled at growing and managing senior individual contributors. They have a track record of building successful teams. They love developer tooling, have an eye for detail, are curious, and work well with customers, users, and partners.

Requirements

  • Must be located currently in the EST time zone in the US
  • Min. 5+ years experience directly managing a high-performing team.
  • additional 5+ years of professional experience as an IC software developer.
  • Proven professional experience leading teams responsible for developer-facing platforms, such as APIs, SDKs, client libraries, or integrations.
  • Strong technical judgment around API design, stability, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Ability to partner closely with Product to evolve developer interfaces based on real user needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a distributed, cross-time-zone environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Management of engineers on the team (direct reports)
  • Align the team with business and product goals by working closely with product management.
  • Ensure predictable delivery and operational excellence of the components the teams ship.
  • Facilitate communication across teams and status reporting for critical projects.
  • Hire and retain talent.
  • Hold a high bar for engineering excellence.
