About The Position

Lead complex Spark (independent contractors) Earnings tax and withholding compliance initiatives that directly impact our last mile delivery operations, compliance, reporting, and strategic decision-making. This role partners closely with Earnings leadership and cross-functional teams to drive tax and withholding compliance, and ensure compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictional operations. It’s a high-impact opportunity to shape tax compliance strategy, influence business decisions, and mentor a team of compliance professionals. About the Spark Earnings (Independent Contractor) Team: Our team is responsible for the seamless calculation, disbursement, and reporting of independent contractor earnings and tax withholdings. We operate with a focus on compliance, data integrity, and continuous improvement, directly impacting both company performance and the experience of our independent contractor network. This role is pivotal in setting best practices and driving operational rigor across the organization.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in tax and withholding compliance across multi-jurisdictional operations.
  • Experience in gig economy / independent contractor scenarios.
  • Strong knowledge of controls, audits, and evolving federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage competing priorities, and guide tax professionals.
  • Skill in translating complex tax concepts into clear business insights for Product and Engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field and 3 years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, or related area OR 5 years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, or related area.
  • 1 years' supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tax compliance planning, modeling, and withholding analysis to support all our compliance needs.
  • Oversee tax and withholding compliance processes, including review of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Drive implementation of complex tax and withholding compliance initiatives through a Product lens.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop associates while executing multiple business plans and compliance-related projects.
