Position Overview The Senior Planning Manager is responsible for leading financial planning and inventory strategy across Johnny Was’ retail, and e-commerce channels. This role drives topline sales, margin, and inventory productivity by developing and executing strategic merchandise financial plans that support the brand’s growth objectives. This leader partners cross-functionally with Merchandising, Allocation, Production, Retail, and Finance to ensure alignment between product strategy and financial performance. The Senior Planning Manager will lead a team, provide actionable insights to senior leadership, and influence key business decisions through data-driven analysis.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of retail planning experience, preferably within apparel or lifestyle brands.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of multi-channel retail planning (Retail, E-commerce, Wholesale).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with retail planning systems.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and forecasting skills.
  • Ability to translate data into clear, strategic business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage seasonal and annual merchandise financial plans including sales, margin, inventory, and turn.
  • Drive OTB (Open-to-Buy) management and in-season reforecasting to maximize opportunities and mitigate risk.
  • Align assortment strategies with financial goals, ensuring category and channel profitability.
  • Identify risks and opportunities through trend analysis and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Analyze weekly, monthly, and seasonal business performance against plan.
  • Lead hindsight analysis to inform future assortments and financial strategies.
  • Partner with Allocation to ensure inventory is deployed effectively to support sell-through and margin.
  • Monitor key KPIs including sell-through, AUR, markdown rate, inventory turn, and GMROI.
  • Partner closely with Merchandising to align product strategy with financial objectives.
  • Work with Allocation and Supply Chain to ensure inventory flow supports demand and lifecycle strategies.
  • Collaborate with Retail and E-commerce teams to understand customer trends and market shifts.
  • Present financial strategies and business updates to senior leadership.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor Planning team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear goals aligned with brand and company objectives.
