About The Position

As our Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will help MISO analyze future operating conditions on the Bulk Electric System (BES) and determine the actions needed to allow maintenance of existing, and construction of new electrical facilities to occur. You will perform power-flow analysis on the transmission and generation level to ensure reliability of the grid. You will have access to some of the best tools in the industry and have opportunity to solve critical problems as MISO prepares for the operation of the future! Requirements

  • We are looking for hardworking engineers who have at least a bachelor’s degree in any of the following: Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology
  • To qualify for this role, you will need at least five years of relevant work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • We would also prefer candidates who have completed courses in Power Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Building power system models in EMS/PSSE for near-term and long-term analysis
  • Running power flow, contingency, and voltage/ transient stability analyses.
  • Identifying outage-driven congestions and mitigation options necessary for grid reliability and energy market efficiency
  • Making decisions to approve, reschedule, or deny Outage works based on detailed engineering analysis and results.
  • Coordination outages with MISO’s stakeholders on best practices and timeliness of outage planning.
  • Creatively originating, participating in, and leading innovative automation projects and process improvement efforts as needed in a changing power system space.
  • Collaborating with other MISO internal teams like Real-time Operations, Market Operations, Transmission Planning, and others to ensure system reliability, resilience, and efficiency.
