About The Position

Join our Embedded Controls team as a technical leader driving the design and development of electronic control units and associated printed wiring board assemblies that power critical electric systems for military and commercial aircraft. In this role, you will work autonomously while leading technical efforts across the full development lifecycle, applying electrical and electronic engineering principles to ensure designs meet applicable specifications, customer requirements, and standard work practices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed unit design, support engineering documentation releases, and guide development and qualification testing through successful entry into service. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative aerospace technologies while influencing complex, high-impact engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • BS or advanced degree of Electrical Engineering
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access certain necessary systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Electronics circuits design experience
  • Experience with Electric Power Systems or similar system
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically
  • Experience with MS Office suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience of Process (e.g. DO160, and DO254)
  • 10 years demonstrated engineering excellence with leadership experience in product development
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers, and communicate effectively with technical authority through all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving experience and a robust work ethic
  • Experience preparing and executing a program plan.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize department-specific Hardware Specific Processes and Collins Standard Work to ensure designs and associated data to meet our internal and regulatory standards.
  • Work with project engineering, box/unit leads, department leadership, peer designers, other engineering disciplines as needed to develop control units and resolve issues.
  • May manage small projects and processes
  • Oversees, reviews, and provides developmental feedback to junior team members.
  • Unit and Module Requirements creation using Doors and/or SysML modelling tools such as Cameo
  • Requirements management (Validation of requirements and Change Management through various tools such as Team Center and Polarion.)
  • Schematic design using Concept HDL and/or Mentor Graphics (Siemens EDA)
  • Design Reviews per department standards
  • Design Analysis per department standards and customer specifications such as (Stress, stability, Lightning, Performance, and other analysis)
  • Supporting creation of Test Requirement Specifications (TRS) and development of production test solution.
  • Create board level test procedures
  • Create RTCA DO-160 test procedures for development and qualification testing
  • Determine and prepare procedures for testing products (Development and Qualification Testing)
  • Development and qualification testing at a unit level and at a system level
  • Use of lab equipment
  • Support testing at non-Collins locations as needed
  • Documents results of design studies, trade studies, and failure analyses.
  • Provides technical assistance to manufacturing as required.
  • Leading root cause investigations by Collaborating across engineering departments, customer, and other groups to resolve problems
  • Addressing obsolescence of components in designs
  • Interfacing with off-site manufacturing facilities and resolving production issues.
