This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the commissioning, startup, and operation of a new sophisticated facility from the ground up.   The SIS Engineer provides support and lifecycle management for Instrumented protective systems including SIS, ESS, BMS and IPL’s. The SIS Engineer works closely with the daily operations of olefins, polyethylene, and utilities units and provides support for IPS and IPL related maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization and project implementation so the producing assets can run safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role will be a senior role, leading advanced safety‑instrumented‑system activities such as system configuration, engineering analysis, lifecycle compliance, and conducting SIL calculations.  Initially this position will be ensuring the plant is properly commissioned and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up of the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or related field.
  • 5+years of experience in designing, implementing, or maintaining SIS in a process industry environment.
  •  Proficiency in calculating SIL ratings and developing Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
  •  Hands-on experience with SIS logic solvers and PLCs (e.g., Schnieder, Honeywell, Siemens, Yokogawa, or Rockwell systems).
  •  Strong understanding of redundancy, fault tolerance, and safety lifecycle management.
  •  Familiarity with conducting Functional Safety Assessments (FSA) and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity in control systems.
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., CFSE or TÜV Functional Safety Expert).
  • Experience working with HAZOP and LOPA studies.
  • Experience with writing/reading function block and ladder logic
  • Experience with Bently Nevada and Compressor Controls
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV (DCS/SIS)
  • Commissioning/Start-up experience
  • Polyethylene/Ethylene experience

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all appropriate regulatory bodies, mandated policies, procedures, work instructions, and records.
  • Monitors equipment performance and makes improvement recommendations.
  • Participates in activities related to safety, risk assessment and safety incident investigations related to instrumentation equipment.
  • Reviews project design packages for proper engineering design regarding proper application, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Supports the maintenance team, partners with vendors and contractors to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, replace, test, commission, and de-commission SIS related instrumentation
  • Supports Capital project organization in developing scope, participate in detailed design, factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests and execution phases of projects.
  • Conduct SIL calculations and develop Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
  • Configure SIS systems, including programming logic solvers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for process safety assessments.
  • Perform system testing and validation to ensure compliance with IEC 61511.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic to intermediate SIS and PLC issues including Vibration monitoring systems and compressor controls
  • Participare in FAT, SAT and HAT for projects
  • Lead small tasks or sub-projects within larger SIS implementation efforts.
  • Support Functional Safety Assessments (FSA) and safety lifecycle management.
  • Assists with managing SIS lifecycle program and processes
