Keep reading: The RoleThe Skillbridge intern will train as a Environmental Hazmat Technician within Ingalls Shipbuilding, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning Environmental Hazmat Technician basics and principles. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed. Desired End State (3-4 month target) At the end of four months, the intern will be able to use predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications to support the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) department by conducting inspections and ensuring regulatory compliance in an industrial setting. The intern will develop a good understanding of the inspection and regulatory process. This includes: Monitoring satellite accumulation areas, hazardous waste tanks, paint shop drums, air emission sources, and chemical handling practices Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations such as EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, DOT, and OSHA, while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting internal audits Spill response, waste manifest tracking, and collaboration with other departments to resolve nonconformances Strong attention to detail, knowledge of environmental regulations, and the ability to work in industrial environments with appropriate PPE Hazardous materials handling Ingalls Shipbuilding will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience.

Requirements

  • Must be a transitioning active-duty military personnel with their final 12 months of active-duty service.
  • Skillbridge Intern will possess at minimum an Active confidential Security Clearance.

  • Monitoring satellite accumulation areas, hazardous waste tanks, paint shop drums, air emission sources, and chemical handling practices
  • Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations such as EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, DOT, and OSHA, while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting internal audits
  • Spill response, waste manifest tracking, and collaboration with other departments to resolve nonconformances
