About The Position

FALL SEMESTER 2026 HIST 130 United States History to 1877 3cr This is an introductory survey covering the history of the United States through Reconstruction. This course is designed to acquaint students with most major topics in the American experience ranging from the origins of British settlement in North America through the Civil War and the end of Reconstruction in 1877. This course will explore the cultures that discovered and created American society and the interactions of European, Native American and African peoples. It also will introduce students to the process of thinking historically, with a focus on original historical sources. Prerequisite(s): ENGL-040 or ENGL-080 This is a hybrid class with an in-person class meeting on Thursday, 11:00 am - 12:15 pm at SMCC’s Midcoast campus in Brunswick, with additional asynchronous online coursework.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree in history, or in a closely related field
  • College level teaching experience
  • Capability to use Brightspace, the online learning management system

  • Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students
