About The Position

FALL SEMESTER 2026 PSYC 220 Lifespan Development 3cr This course utilizes a life-span approach to human development, focusing on factors associated with physical, cognitive, social, and personality development from birth through adulthood. Using major developmental theories as a framework, both psychological and environmental factors and their interplay will be discussed. Topics will also include philosophical and historical bases of theories, as well as cultural factors which influence development. Students will be encouraged to think critically and apply their knowledge of development to their own lives. Prerequisite(s): ENGL-080 or ENGL-101 or approximante placement, PSYC 100 This is a hybrid class with an in-person class meeting on Thursday, 9:30-10:45 am at SMCC’s Midcoast campus in Brunswick, with additional asynchronous online coursework.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree in psychology, or in a closely related field
  • College level teaching experience
  • Capability to use Brightspace, the online learning management system

  • Establishing and communicating clear objectives, and providing timely feedback to students
  • Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students
  • Utilizing curriculum and related course materials provided on the class website (Brightspace)
  • Contributing to positive and collaborative work and learning environment
