About The Position

As a Software Engineer on the Digital Pharmacy team, you will help build and maintain applications that drive the patient experience across Walgreens’ mobile app, website, and notification platforms. Our team develops services that integrate with pharmacy systems—enabling patients to view prescription status, request refills, manage insurance, complete payments, and receive timely notifications via email, SMS, and push. You will work in an Agile environment alongside product managers and fellow engineers to design, implement, and enhance features that directly impact patient experience and business outcomes. This role includes contributing to both new development and ongoing improvements across a range of systems, from straightforward enhancements to more complex service integrations. This is a hybrid role based at the Walgreens Corporate Office in Deerfield, IL. Team members are expected to work onsite four days per week, with one day remote option. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field
Experience writing code for applications or automation
Experience with programming languages for online applications, microservices, APIs or mobile applications
Experience building ,testing applications or automation
Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
3+ years of experience working on digital applications
2+ years of experience with deployment automation across IaaS and PaaS platforms
Proficient in Java / Spring Boot development
Experience with CI/CD pipelines for cloud deployments using Docker/containers
Experience working in an Agile environment
Experience identifying operational issues and implementing solutions
Good knowledge of Git workflows and repository management

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of Kubernetes, microservices architecture, DevOps tools, and Linux environments
Experience developing web and/or mobile applications in Agile environments
Experience with full stack development (front-end and back-end)
Hands-on experience with modern UI frameworks (e.g., React) and front-end design patterns
Experience with MongoDB and distributed SQL databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL)
Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, IBM, or Cloud Foundry)
Knowledge of software engineering best practices (code reviews, testing, build processes, etc.)
Experience building applications that consume JSON-based APIs
