Job Summary Our Commercial business manages the company's worldwide commodity, supply, and marketing needs. We are seeking a Sr. Analyst, Commercial Compliance, to join our Houston team to help cover our growing footprint in the gas and power space. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring regulatory and commercial compliance within ConocoPhillips’s US gas and power marketing and trading business. Key duties include analyzing FERC regulations and policies impacting gas and power markets, including capacity release rules, and rules governing power marketers holding market-based rate authority. Deep knowledge of ISO/RTO and non-ISO/RTO regions, BPMs, carbon markets, and GHG programs is essential. Partners with internal teams to understand business needs and address regulatory and compliance risks for gas and power trading, including Designated Contract Markets.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher or foreign equivalent
  • 5 or more years of experience working in the compliance and regulatory profession in the energy commodity sector
  • 5 or more years of experience working in the US commodities markets (Power, Gas, crude, and/or LNG)

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of experience interpreting FERC gas and power market regulations and supporting required regulatory reporting (Forms 552, 561, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of wholesale gas and power markets
  • Capability to support trade compliance across multiple exchanges and product types, including block trades, EFRPs, and position limits, with demonstrated interaction with FCMs and exchange staff
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret complex energy related legislation and communicate clearly to non-expert audiences
  • Adapts quickly in fast‑paced environments, makes sound decisions, and communicates effectively with stakeholders
  • Comfortable presenting trainings to large audiences of front office personnel, including traders, marketers, upper management, and mid and back-office staff

Responsibilities

  • Interpret external regulatory requirements for US Gas and Power activities, including ISO/RTO tariffs and related BPMs, FERC rules, state RPS and GHG obligations, and independent market monitors’ (IMM) expectations
  • Engage in relevant industry forums and peer groups to remain informed on market and regulatory changes
  • Understand internal policies and procedures and update them as needed to reflect changing business and regulatory requirements.
  • Open to learning and supporting reporting for additional ConocoPhillips commodities, including crude, natural gas, and LNG
  • Partner with internal teams and Legal to interpret exchange rules and deliver compliance training.
