Senior Director, Business Strategy Aliso Viejo, CA Role Overview The Gaming, Developer & Future Technology organization is shaping the long-term future of interactive entertainment, crater support, and advanced innovation at global scale. Reporting directly to the SVP, the Senior Director, Business Strategy will serve as the primary business counterpart to a deeply technical executive. In this role your will bring commercial acumen, financial rigor, strategic framing, and executive leverage to a 1,500+ person global organization. This role blends enterprise-level business strategy with chief-of-staff responsibilities. The Senior Director will enhance the SVP’s effectiveness, strengthen organizational alignment, and ensure innovation translates into measurable business value. Acting as both strategic architect and operational integrator, this leader will connect long-term vision to disciplined execution and enterprise impact. This is a high-trust, high-influence role requiring exceptional judgment, executive presence, and the ability to operate fluidly between strategic altitude and organizational detail.

Requirements

  • 12–15+ years of experience in business strategy, corporate strategy, management consulting, investment planning, business operations, or general management within global technology or innovation-driven organizations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including capital planning, portfolio analysis, and long-range business modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a strategic advisor or chief-of-staff to a senior executive.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments.
  • International business experience required.
  • Exceptional strategic thinker with the ability to translate long-term vision into structured action.
  • Strong commercial instincts and understanding of platform, ecosystem, and growth models.
  • High executive presence and discretion in handling confidential matters.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and visual communication skills; able to craft board-level materials.
  • Ability to manage complexity and distill information into clear, simple frameworks.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to build trust across cultures and seniority levels.
  • Proactive, anticipatory, and comfortable operating in ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary business advisor and thought partner to the SVP, complementing technical depth with commercial and financial expertise.
  • Translate innovation and R&D direction into clear business strategies, investment theses, and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide structured thinking around growth strategy, ecosystem expansion, partnerships, and build-vs-buy decisions.
  • Bring external market intelligence and competitive insight into executive discussions.
  • Act as a confidential sounding board on matters of strategy, structure, and organizational evolution.
  • Lead annual and multi-year strategic planning and portfolio prioritization.
  • Drive capital allocation discipline and ensure resources align with strategic value creation.
  • Establish frameworks for evaluating ROI, trade-offs, and investment timing.
  • Partner closely with Finance on budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.
  • Ensure major initiatives are grounded in strong business cases and measurable outcomes.
  • Define and oversee the business performance framework for a large global organization.
  • Establish meaningful KPIs that measure strategic progress, productivity, and value creation.
  • Identify inefficiencies, structural gaps, and misalignments; propose solutions that improve clarity and speed.
  • Strengthen decision-making frameworks, accountability models, and governance rhythms.
  • Enhance the SVP’s leadership leverage by driving focus, prioritization, and preparation for key internal and external engagements.
  • Architect and manage leadership forums, strategic offsites, and executive reviews. Make sure that objectives are clear and outcomes are actionable.
  • Shape the rhythm of business for the organization, ensuring consistent alignment across global teams.
  • Anticipate emerging issues and surface risks before they escalate.
  • Connect strategic conversations to executable next steps across leadership teams.
  • Craft compelling executive and board-ready narratives that connect technical innovation to business impact.
  • Elevate the organization’s strategic story across Sony Interactive Entertainment and broader Sony stakeholders.
  • Drive high-quality internal communications, including All Hands and leadership updates.
  • Represent the organization in enterprise planning and governance forums as needed.
