About The Position

The Senior Engineer BOP Controls provides global technical leadership and engineering support for subsea BOP control systems across offshore operations, projects, and upgrade programs. This role is responsible for the design, specification, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of subsea BOP control hardware and software for new builds, conversions, refurbishments, and upgrades. The position interfaces closely with offshore rig teams, project teams, OEMs, and cross-discipline engineering groups to ensure safe, reliable, and operable control system solutions. Key responsibilities include developing design specifications, scopes of work, procurement and test documentation, participating in hardware and software FATs, supporting commissioning and downtime troubleshooting, and driving the incorporation of lessons learned and best practices into maintenance and testing procedures. The role also supports TMOCs, OEM alerts and bulletins, maintenance system content reviews, and technical resolution of hardware and software challenges.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of offshore oil field floating experience preferred with related control systems experience.
  • Strong knowledge of subsea BOP equipment and BOP control systems, including MUX, electro-hydraulic, and legacy architectures.
  • Exposure to and working knowledge of major OEM BOP control systems (SLB, NOV, HMH), with the ability to support mixed-fleet environments.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex BOP control system issues across electrical, hydraulic, software, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Experience supporting legacy BOP control systems and addressing obsolescence risks, including component replacement strategies and system upgrades.
  • Working knowledge of API, ABS, DNV, IEC, and related offshore regulations and standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop hydraulic and electrical schematics, logic diagrams, and control system documentation.
  • Experience producing technical reports, failure analyses, and formal engineering documentation for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classification (area rating) and correct application of certified offshore equipment.
  • Experience working with OEMs and vendors to resolve hardware, software, and design challenges.
  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills with offshore and onshore teams.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, equivalent practical experience will be evaluated.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 7-10 years of offshore oil field floating experience preferred.
  • Participation in or exposure to industry committees or working groups (e.g., API) is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, MSc/MSc in Subsea Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Provides subsea technical support to meet operations, shipyard teams, marketing staff technical inquiries and special project needs of rig and area management, safeguarding against all identifiable risks (TMOC and troubleshooting).
  • Assist the Engineering Manager or Project Manager in solving engineering design and analysis problems.
  • Provides subsea technical assistance for the planned and preventive operational maintenance routines and procedures which conform to relevant rules, regulations and requirements established by the Company.
  • Review and process OEM alerts and bulletins.
  • Coordinate with vendors to assure all regulatory and classification body’s requirements are met in all cases of equipment fabrications, installation, and repair.
