About The Position

Under general supervision of the Chief Information Officer or designee, the Sr. IT Support Specialist - AudioVideo Systems installs, configures, maintains, and repairs the City's video surveillance systems located in municipal facilities, public safety buildings, parks, streets, and other City-owned properties. This position supports public safety operations by ensuring reliable operation of indoor and outdoor security cameras and the City's Video Management System (VMS). The employee works collaboratively with the Information Technology Department, Police Department, and other City departments to maintain system integrity, cybersecurity compliance, and proper handling of sensitive video data. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Installation & Configuration Installs, configures, and maintains IP-based and analog video surveillance cameras in indoor and outdoor environments. Installs and terminates structured cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, fiber optic, coaxial) and conduit in accordance with applicable codes and standards. Mounts cameras, enclosures, and related hardware on buildings, poles, and other municipal structures. Configures network connectivity, including PoE switches, VLANs, and associated infrastructure. Ensures proper camera positioning, focus, and image quality. System Maintenance & Troubleshooting Performs preventative maintenance and routine inspections of surveillance equipment. Diagnoses and resolves hardware, software, and network connectivity issues. Replaces defective cameras, cabling, and related components. Maintains firmware updates and security patches to ensure system security and reliability. Responds to service requests and emergency outages as needed. Video Management System Administration Installs, configures, and maintains Video Management System (VMS) software and hardware including NVRs, servers, and storage systems. Manages user accounts, access permissions, and recording configurations in accordance with City policy. Monitors system health, recording status, and storage capacity. Assists authorized personnel with video retrieval in compliance with public records laws, evidentiary standards, and City procedures. Compliance & Documentation Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding surveillance systems and data retention. Follows OSHA safety standards and City safety policies when performing installations and maintenance. Maintains accurate documentation of system configurations, maintenance activities, and equipment inventory. Safeguards confidential and sensitive information. Interdepartmental Support Coordinates with Police, Fire, Public Works, Facilities, and other departments regarding camera placement and system needs. Provides technical support and training to authorized City personnel. Assists with planning and implementation of system upgrades and expansion projects. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: May be required to assist other divisions within the IT department on various projects and tasks. The duties listed above are only as illustrations of the various types of work. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a degree in information technology, computer engineering, computer science, or electronics with 5 years of progressive experience in installing and maintaining audiovideo surveillance systems, low-voltage and related electronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of IP-based camera systems and Video Management Systems - Panasonic, Axis, Ubiquiti, etc. Including installation and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of networking principles including IP addressing, switches, VLANs, and PoE.
  • Working knowledge of structured cabling standards and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work with various department personnel to determine video surveillance specifications.
  • Ability to compile bill of materials and get quotes for equipment and parts needed for a site installation.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting technical and network-related issues.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, local government officials, and outside vendors.
  • Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
  • Background check required.
