About The Position

This position is responsible for leading a diverse set of team members responsible for executing sales orders into deliveries for customer and intercompany shipments across the Tyson enterprise. Specifically, this leader will manage all functions of the freight process including load building, appointment setting, freight allocation, and equipment utilization for outside carriers and the Tyson private fleet. This position will be responsible for collaborating with the Network team to insure there is a balance of when executing freight. This includes maintaining an acceptable level of on-time delivery while minimizing our overall transportation expense, optimizing truck fill utilization, carrier commitments, and optimizing the use of Tyson’s private fleet. This position is a fast pace, multi-tasking position giving strategic leadership to up to 11 direct reports. This position will be responsible for maintaining/strengthening/developing a team to accomplish the overall department goals while promoting the Tyson RIGHT behaviors to fulfill the Tyson Customer Promise. Weekend and Afterhours work are a routine piece of responsibility. Emails and phone calls after-hours are common. The person in this position will use their experience to, remotely or on-site, direct off hour team members when the need arises to be a lender to problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 7 plus years of experience.
  • Standard computer skills required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing Service and Cost Reporting for accuracy and forward planning.
  • Review Truck fill rate and utilization to maximize LTL shipments.
  • Daily interactions with Contract Carrier and Tyson Fleet Ops Managers to discuss truck markets, demand planning, and service needs.
  • Daily meetings and conference calls with Tyson BUs to discuss, plan and overcome opportunities as they arise.
  • Daily conference calls with Transportation Leadership to review, plan, and execute transportation strategies for 1600 Tyson fleet/dedicated drivers and 3500 Tyson trailers.
  • Review Transportation strategy to increase overall performance.
  • Collaborate with HR to establish mentoring and training programs for team member growth.
  • Goal setting and performance reviews for direct and indirect reports for the Ops Group.
  • Promote Tyson/Carrier Partnerships by participating in various Core Carrier Events – i.e. Driver Awards Ceremony / Annual Tyson Carrier Awards etc.
  • Periodic trips to third party cariers or plant facilities for business performance reviews.
