About The Position

To support the SSSD Program by co-mentoring a group of first year SSSD students, planning activities, facilitating discussions, communicating with students in a small group and 1-1 setting, and role modeling active engagement in SSSD. Peer Leaders will also work at the Academic Success Center Front Desk to help check students in, answer questions in-person or over the phone, and support the work of the center.

Requirements

  • Must be a current St. Olaf student returning next fall familiar with the TRIO SSSD program.
  • Must be in good academic standing (GPA above 2.0)
  • Ability and interest in working with, and communicating effectively and positively with students with a disability from diverse backgrounds in formal and informal settings
  • Ability to be reliable and punctual to all events
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills when working with student leaders, faculty, and staff
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn 25Live, Google Document, Google Sheets, WCOnline, CANVA, and other sites

Nice To Haves

  • Highly encouraged to be van certified, to drive SSSD students to different social & cultural events off-campus.

Responsibilities

  • Work a minimum of 3 hours/week both Fall and Spring Semesters
  • 1 hour weekly PL Meeting (must be available Monday or Tuesday in the afternoon)
  • Work 1 hour Academic Success Center Front Desk
  • 1-2 hours of independent work time to plan projects, communicate with mentees, collaborate with different offices, and or supporting SSSD events or staff.
  • Be on campus starting August 30th for SSSD New Student Orientation and training.
  • Mentor a small group of SSSD first-year students; email and meet students at least once in-person/month
  • Serve as an active role model for SSSD students by attending all assigned workshops/seminars
  • Interact with students in a positive way, in formal and informal academic settings
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners, including but not limited to TRIO Student Support Services(SSS) and other student support offices
  • Be van certified, to drive SSSD students to different social & cultural events off-campus.
