About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance and Technology with the recording and maintenance of accounting information for the Minnesota Children’s Museum ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clarity of financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit entities and in accordance with the organization’s mission and values. The organization budget is approximately $9M with 120 employees. REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Technology SALARY: $70,000.00 annually CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full-time SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week hybrid eligible. Expected to be in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Requirements

  • Associate’s, BA or BS in Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two to four years’ accounting experience
  • Proficient in Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and advanced Excel skills including v-lookups and pivot tables
  • Experience with CRM/donor management systems
  • Strong customer service and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with a Payroll or Human Resources Management System, preferably Paylocity
  • Nonprofit experience

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Process bi-weekly payroll – including bonuses, garnishments, PTO payouts, etc.
  • Troubleshoot payroll related issues such as incorrect timesheet feeds, etc.
  • Prepare payroll and benefits journal entries and allocations
  • Year-end verification of W-2’s
  • Prepare and submit quarterly sales tax reports
  • Manage pledge, grant, and program fee reporting and invoicing processes
  • Reconcile revenue between Salesforce, Galaxy POS and the accounting system
  • Provide backup to Accounts Payable and Receivable Accountant
  • Manage monthly bank and investment reconciliations
  • Manage all balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end reports (balance sheets, income statements) and ad-hoc reports as requested
  • Assist with maintaining, updating, and implementing accounting related software systems
  • Assist with annual budget and ongoing forecasting
  • Assist with annual external audit
  • Assist with 990 preparation
  • Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
