About The Position

STAFF ACCOUNTANT POSITION SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial operations of Union Rescue Mission by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. This position is responsible for maintaining detailed financial records, preparing financial statements, and supporting internal and external reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting, a solid understanding of grant reporting requirements, and the ability to interpret financial data to support sound management decision making. This role also includes supervisory responsibilities, providing oversight to the Accounts Payable Clerk for all expense-related workflows. The Staff Accountant must demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence while supporting the mission, vision, and values of Union Rescue Mission.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting or related field.
  • 3-5+ years progressively responsible, related experience.
  • Highly experienced in integrated accounting systems (Abila MIP Fund Accounting), CRMs (Salesforce) and other financial and operational systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and develop recommendations and solutions.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and project management skills with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • Well-versed in the use of technology applied in financial and operational environments.
  • Strong orientation toward detail, quality and task completion.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to be an effective team member and handle project leadership responsibility.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external and organizational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Compile monthly internal financial statements and contribute to annual consolidated financial statements
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and ongoing budget monitoring to ensure compliance with grant and funder requirements.
  • Prepare required financial documentation and reports for grant billing, grant reporting, and administrative grant support.
  • Gather documentation for grants and supporting documentation within the accounting system.
  • Prepare journal entries, including adjusting, recurring allocation, and grant related entries.
  • Analyze accounts, and financial data to resolve discrepancies and make recommendations.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, including prepaid expenses, and other assigned accounts.
  • Provide supervisory oversight of the Accounts Payable (AP) Clerk, ensuring accurate invoice processing, vendor communication, and timely disbursements.
  • Support the disbursement cycle, including AP and expense compliance.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or CFO.
